Uttarakhand Tourism


Uttarakhand is the 27th state in the north of India. It is also known as Uttaranchal. Within its Himalayan territory lies some of the most pious and sacred temples of India. Dehradun is the capital of this state.

Tourism flourishes here because of its natural endowment of mountains and rivers. It has nature with rich flora and fauna, mountain adventure like bunjee jumping, trekking, camping, white water rafting, jungle safari, aviary, para-gliding, mountaineering, skiing etc. The sacred temples of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Hemkund sahib, Kailash Mansarovar, Hardiwar etc are scattered along the state. Glacier Bunder Punch, gangotri, khatling, Doonagiri, Kaphini and ralam are located within the state. It attracts a lot of tourism. Some of the important towns of the state are Nainital, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Chamba, Almora, dehradun, Pauri, Rudraprayag, and uttarkashi.

The food is easy to prepare and tasty to eat. Food is prepared in ghee and mustard oil. Bal Mithai is sweet dish in demand. Vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes are served. Some of the known dishes are Kaap, Bhatt ki Churdkani, Gulgula, dubuk, aloo ke Pakora, bhang ki Chutney, Ghat ki Daal, Gahat Rasmi Badi, Chainsoo etc.

There are plenty of shopping attractions all through the state. Tibetian Market at Nainital is a very popular spot. Other famous shopping dens are KRC Community centre at Ranikhet, Sarv Handicraft Emporium at Dehra Dun. The local markets sell all the utility items and on national and some international brands. Shopping is fun in the state.

The state has one airport Jolly Grant near Dehradun. State highways run through the state and link it to other parts of India. The prominent railway stations are at Haridwar, Dehradun, and Kathgodam. Connectivity with transport is good.
